hey there, i was searching online for writing guru in sanskrit, i had studied the sanskrit language for 5 years, and now, one fine day, when i thought i'd write the 'gurur brahma' verse, i realized i had forgotten the letters!
i came across this post of yours in this way...googling for gurur brahma verse...
i was pleasantly surprised that you had written abt nie, and TNS and datta sir ! he (TNS) was the principal during my first 2 yrs there; nie evokes the same kind of veneration and respect as i can see in your blog...

Hi Vidyanath,

I am just so sad, almost on the verge of crying on knowing that the is no more. It is just so emotional. I had always considered him to be my Guru in Mathematics.

He always had philosophical insights into Mathematics. He was the only one who made mathematics so much fun . His greatness is hidden in the fact that even when he is no more two of his students are meeting only because of their love for him.

I miss him everytime I think of Mathematics. He had made it a part of my life. I used to enjoy doing maths. Now that I am not even remotely connected to Mathematics, I feel sadder.

He was a Great man! And I thank you for commenting. It feels great to connect with fellow fans of the Great Man.

Please keep in touch! Thanks so much for your comment yar!

Aditya.. I do not know whether you will ever see this comment, but iam writing it anyway......

I wa searching blogs for Irodov and landed up here...

I studied in Special too and under M1 sir, Mr. Suryanarayana Rao !!!!

Sadly, he passed away 4 years back. But he is the don, no doubt about it. The way he used to teach real analysis and mathematics in general is to be learnt to be believed.

Who can forget the way he refers to graphs as "Transcendental functions". I asked him why they are called so, he leant on me, smiled and said, "endukante manaku avi artham kaavu kanaka"... pointing towards the sky!!

What a philosophical insightful explanation for a graph.

aah... I miss him.

Thanks Aditya for reminding him...

Suma:
Thanks for your comment! I know how much you value our teachers!

Nivi:
Thanking parents? Yes. Good point.

My thinking behind not including them in this list was: Parents are much more than just teachers. On "Teacher's day" I thought I shall just stick to the traditional definition of a teacher.

But yes, I agree with you totally, when you say that they are our first teachers!

Hey Adi,

That was a good article! Remembering our teachers on the occasion of Teachers' Day is one of the best ways to express our gratitude towards them... Your article made me nostalgic too..

Arjuna,

I feel really indebted to my teachers for whatever they have done for me. This blog is probably just 10% of what I feel for them!
