I would love to call this guy a machine.. but he isnt… he’s more like an “artist”…

    No doubts at all…

He is closer to the best ever, but not really … He is missing French Open Title.

    Vijay:
Agree with you! Artist is the word!

    Sudhakar:
Shortly even that will be done! Wait till March!

    Ganesh Kumar:
    Right right!

Too soon to say so…he is yet to break quite a number of records…for eg: max no: of grandslams or max no: of weeks on the No: 1 spot …etc…

    Jo:
Another thing you need to consider is: When these records were achieved what was the age of the player? for eg. When Pete Sampras won his 14th slam, he was 32-33. I agree that Federer hasn’t achieved that yet, but at 25 whatever he has done is something even the great Rod Laver hadn’t achieved.

The point anyway is that: even if Federer quits at this point of time, he will still be considered one the all-time greats if not the best ever as I say. But then I have taken his potential also into account not only performance. And like you say, since no one has seen the future – we cannot conclude that he will convert that potential into performance. Mine was positive and wishful thinking that’s all! :)

He IS the best-ever. And he is such a wonderful role model – so cool and gracious in everything he does. He is very likeable and does not have the kind of aloofness one felt with Sampras.

I also really like this Rodrigues-guy. His game is so fantastic to watch. One hopes he can keep up this pace of improvement of his game! I think Federer, Nadal and Rodrigues could set up a new golden era for Men’s tennis to rival and better the Ashe-Borg-Connors-McEnroe era.

    Sorry meant Gonzalez not Rodrigues!

  9. on 31 Jan 2007 at 3:52 am shark

Oh YES! He is THE BEST!

P.S: For once we both agree on atleast one person ;-)

    he is the best EVER

Reading all ur posts at a time!!! Had taken a long break!

Yes, no doubt. HE is the BEST in the business!!!

  12. on 31 Jan 2007 at 11:24 pm Mysorean

    Murali Partha:

Rohit Brijnath agrees with you totally. And so do I! :) Pay special attention to that comment about the racket size!

These Gonzalezes and Nadals and Roddicks can only try their best to match Federer (as of now). I thought McEnroe and Connors were quite close to Borg during that era. Federer is so much ahead of the next best guy that we should just sit and watch the game for the beauty and those oh-wow moments that he gives us.

    Shark:
One person less to fight on! :)

    Yogesh:
    That was an echo!

    Welcome back!
No doubts about the ‘best’ part! :)

It doesnt what he acieves, it doesnt matter who he beats, what matters to me is to just whatch how he moves and the shots he makes. Some of them are so amzing that i didnt imagine anyone can play it until i watch him play. Like Rod Laver said watch his legs move its like almost he is not touching the ground. I would like to watch him play another match like aginst Roddick, just for the sake beauty of the shots … He transcends humans when he plays like that …

  18. on 26 Feb 2007 at 2:10 pm Viky

On special demand – this video for all you guys wanting to watch Federer slaughter Roddick. Enjoy!!!

    Sundeep:

    Agree! Agree!

    Viky:

Great shot that is! Only Federer can play those!

Kinda late on this one… but he’s just the best, no doubts.

And the beauty of it is that through it all, he’s been the perfect gentleman of the game, the perfect ambassador, with all the grace one can possess- that’s what makes him a real champion :)

    So true! :)

I have some interest in tennis too and I used to watch it for Federer. Later on, I began watching other players too. But there’s no one quite like the KING of TENNIS. Nadal is the only one who can beat him and Federer, on his day, can beat anyone, even Nadal, on clay. Too bad he hasn’t done that this year. Maybe next year. BTW, I began watching tennis only this year. ;)
