This is how the queues were. Let me also post this photograph here. Courtesy: The Hindu, 11th June 2007 Chennai edition.
Sivaji craze
My wife got up at 7.30AM to try for tickets at Sathyam. Only one ticket was available for Friday – first day first show and two tickets for Saturday first show. That’s all. By 2 PM yesterday, the earliest show that you could book a solitary ticket for was for Thursday morning show.

All other theatres first three days were completely booked by 11 AM. If rumours are to be believed they have all been booked by fans associations and corporates.

And mind you, it is being released in 18 theatres across the city.

I got myself three tickets for Monday night show at Mayajaal! Yipeeee! Yay! Yo hooo!!!!

Now I understand why there is so much of rush in each cinema-hall.In Hyderabad, any big star film releases in 30+ screens.

    S. Ganesh Kumar:
There is nothing that can beat the craze for films in Hyderabad! That’s where I picked up too! heh heh.

The Chennai and Hyderabad markets are fundamentally different. The theatres in Hyderabad are located in such a way that each area has one theatre that is the main one and that’s where every new movie releases. Irrespective of whether it is a big star or a small star or a no star movie. This is also because the style of viewing pictures is different in the two cities. In Hyderabad, movies are used as something to relax. “Let’s have a tea, watch a movie and come back” is the style. So people dont want to travel very far off and they are not extremely rigid on the quality of viewing. If they get good screen quality, good audio quality and at a nearby theatre at a reasonable price that’s it. The multiplex crowd, though growing in numbers, is still at a very nascent stage in Hyderabad. For the average Hyderabadi, it is an Irani cafe, a local theatre and a walk back home that defines a good day.

And when you compare it with Chennai, each of this is different. Chennai-ites plan a movie outing. That explains the success of online booking for the main theatres in Chennai. Most of the people travel to the center of the city to watch a movie because there are no localised theatres that provide good quality watching. Those that are there at the centre are big in capacity. An average local theatre at Hyderabad can house 500-750 ppl at one show whereas it is exactly (if not more) double in Chennai at the main theatres. There is a very thin spread of local theatres. And the quality of experience there is very bad.

To sum up, Cinema halls are a dying business in Chennai. People are more interested in making kalyana mandapams and malls in the same area. In Hyderabad, new theatres are coming up because the basic viewing pattern of the audience is different. The market is of a different nature. Comparisons might not always be right without having the right perspective.

You’re right. And that’s what I’m also saying ra.(In the case of ‘only superstar’.)
Though in any industry, hero gets more money than others,in Bollywood, others too get a very ‘fair share’.That’s to say,you find actresses getting a crore or 2 as salary in Bollywood, apart from that cameramen, music directors and others to are well-paid(As they too have a ‘major importance’),while in Telugu/Tamil,hero(3-7 crores) and director(0.75-3 crores) take away the cake and give the ‘leftovers’ to other technicians!Hence, you find Rajin paid 19 crores andShankar 8-10 crores.Go and ask how much the others got.Maybe peanuts!
As for that 19 crores,it’s because he acts once in 2 years.Chiranjeevi too gets 16-20 crores for 2 films since Indra(2002).(That ‘megastar’ offlate acts in 1 film/year.)
Man, I do not hate this guy Rajinkanth.Just that the hype is ‘TOO MUCHU’!

    But all these for “shivaji“?
For Who else Bachodi?! Who else?!

    Claytonia Vices:
Tamilians are very chivalrous. The men buy the tickets for the women! ;)

On a serious note, Rajni’s fan following comprises of families mainly. That’s where he gets his money from! :)

    GG:
    On its way!

    Biju:
Yes! I did! And am on cloud nine!

    Tanya:
Thanks for coming here and leaving a comment! Unknowingly you have used a word twice in your comment that will be used forever with great respect by whoever has watched “Sivaji” – Cool! :)

    Viky:
    Chumma adhirudhille?!! :D

    Veena:
Thats another of the dialogues that come close to being the punch dialogue of the movie! (It’s called ‘punch dialogue’, not repetitive please!;))

    Priya:
Don’t watch it in some theatre! Watch it in a good theatre to let A R Rahman’s music soak into you and that’s when the real charisma of the movie hits you! Trust me on this! :) Happy viewing!

there is no match in this country to the superstar who nearly recieves 20 to 30 crores as salary and 25% of the movie’s profit as bonus…….
so dont compare any star to our superstar……..

    THE BOSS ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    What about this:
    http://sganeshkumar.blogspot.com/2007/10/going-to-watch-guestathithi.html
What a stupendous rise at such a young age of 30+?And yes, always working with flop/unknown directors to give blockbusters of extraordinary proportions!
