Overheard during the Olympics closing ceremony

The evergreen DD commentators strike Gold [I can take this word without getting emotional about it anymore. Thanks Abhinav!] yet again! I am not going translate this into any other language. If you know Hindi you will understand why!

“bird’s nest jise chidiyon ka ghosla kaha jaata hai kal se itna bhara hua nahin rahega”

“yeh ek aitihasik olympics hai duniya ke liye kyonki india ne apna first gold medal jeeta hai individual category mein”

“olympic ki shama ab bujhne jaa rahi hai….aakhri baar yeh shama jwalit hai….isse dekhkar ek pankti yaad aa rahi hai….” you won’t believe what came next….he started singing “shama hai suhana suhana….” dont miss the play on the word “sama”

I wonder where DD gets these commentators from… I mean you really need to try hard to be so idiotic…
I wonder if there is a selection process..

Can we forget the commentary for the opening ceremony when the DD guy said about the chinese wall being the only manmade object visible from the Moon. That too, quoting Louis Armstrong, when he was supposedly asked what he saw on Earth from the Moon.

And repeated mentions of “Bhartiya Sanskriti” being equally old, over 5000 years.

Thanks a lot for commenting on my blog. That was a comprehensive and exhaustive one. The tragedy is we — as a country — have in us to perform much better; but we don’t want to. It also speaks a lot about our attitude to different endeavours we take up.

Hehehe! Is singing allowed as a part of commentary. I didn’t catch that! I think there will be videos of it on youtube. It was thoroughly entertaining though!

I can believe anything about the DD commentators… the coverage of the olympics that i got to watch on DD was beyond pathetic. I remember, during the telecast of the 10,000 mt finals, those chaps couldnt pronounce “Haile Gebrselassie” … It’s the equivalent of a commentator in a cricket match fumbling over how to pronounce Tendulkar…

reminds me of a news reader on DD1 who after giving an account of US open that was in progress ended the news bulletin with - ‘aur issi ke saath yeh tournament samapt hota hai’
me n my bro were rolling on hearing that.. news was over, and then the focus was back on him.. he was laughing himself as he said - ‘maaf kijiyega isi ki saath yeh samachar bulletin samapt hota hai’ :)
ok my account was at least a slip of tongue.. but this stuff here is soooo terrible! :)
